The Data Warehouse is organized into subject areas.
Each subject area contains a group of relevant tables which are composed of fields
containing the data extracted from the U of M’s administrative source systems
(e.g. SIS, ADS, and HRS) and fields created by the Data Warehouse. Fields that are
populated from the source systems have a source system ID number and source system name.
Many of these fields also have associated Focus titles. The Data Dictionary provides users
of the source systems with a “roadmap” for relating the subject areas, tables, and
fields in the Data Warehouse with the appropriate source system entities by Focus
titles or source system element IDs.
